Art is for everyone 😃. . . #Repost @littlewildhands with @get_repost ・・・ We went to the @akronartmuseum yesterday, looking for a fun way to beat the heatwave happening. . The museum has creative activities available for kids all summer, but SJ was excited to simply sketch what he saw. . I think art museums can intimidate some parents, as they seem quiet and stuffy (antithesis to little ones!), but their wonder is contagious. They notice so many things! I observed other patrons’ smiles when SJ would explain his interpretation. . Sure, there might be others around who would prefer silence, and the ushers were watching my enthusiastic son VERY keenly, but it’s worth it. Expose them to creativity early and often! Commissioned by the Akron Art Museum in 1986 to document the area's natural beauty, Ketchum chose to photograph The Ledges—part of the 33,000-acre Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area (Now Cuyahoga Valley National Park) extending between Akron and Cleveland. With Pride Records Jamal Cyrus created a fictional record label, complete with a history through the 60s and 70s. . . “What I was initially trying to do was to make present something I was looking for in the music but wasn't finding, which was this kind of expression of black militancy. What I could see kind of happening in the politics, I wasn't always seeing that in the music. So I started creating fictional examples of this… When I made the decision to make it a consistent piece, I came up with a name [for the record label] and then kind of a back story to fuel the making of the works. Taylor has performed with pianist Cyrus Chestnut at the Kennedy Center (recorded for NPR’s Jazzset), played engagements at Dizzy’s Club in New York City and toured extensively around the world.
